DOJ Announces $59 Million to Support War on Opioids, Fund Drug Courts

The Department of Justice announced Friday that it will give $58.8 million in grants to address the nationwide opioid epidemic and strengthen drug court programs. The department will award approximately $24 million to 50 cities, counties, and public health departments to help fund the creation of diversion programs and alternatives to incarceration for opioid users. The funds, from the Bureau of Justice Assistance’s Comprehensive Opioid Abuse program, are focused on addressing the abuse of both prescription and non-prescription opioids, as well as reducing crime.
